History of the Bamboo Lounge, Tulsa The “Boo” has been around sine 1957. It is Oklahoma’s oldest Gay bar. Calling the Boo the longest continuing operating Gay bar in the United States is not unreasonable. Countless numbers of people have passed through its doors. During the 70’s the bar’s slogan was “when in Tulsa visit Oral Roberts prayer tower. Then visit Gene’s Bamboo.” Another one was “don’t worry mom, I’m eating well at the Bamboo”. A later slogan was “make your next layover at the Boo”. Today it is known as “Tulsa’s friendliest place to play” The current owners have brought back that clean, easy going, laidback, and fun atmosphere that a true Gay bar should be.
